Summer In Dubai

It’s 107 degrees F (42 C) with humidity that’s 50-60%.  That is BRUTAL if you’re outside during the day or night.  It doesn’t even cool down that much in the evening.

Stepping outside for 10 minutes is a chore.

I don’t even walk anymore, but instead will rent those convenient electrical scooters to get to the Marina Mall or my yoga class.

My goal is to not be here for the next few months, as I prep to relocate to my summer home in Warsaw, Poland.

I like Warsaw because it’s very European with walkable street, outdoor cafes and beautiful parks.  The food is good, and the people are interesting (and much more grounded then in Dubai!).  Also, you live like a king with the American dollar and the quality of restaurants, hotels, etc. are high.  Oh, and I’m half-Polish.  And the girls are cute if you like slim, stylish Eastern-European white women 😉

Talking To Strangers At Cafes

Speaking of girls, I had a fun encounter the other day.  I was at L’eto, a Russian cafe in the Dubai Marina Mall working on my laptop and a very attractive and stylish woman with long black hair and sparkling brown eyes sat two tables away from me.  I had very brief eye contact with her and then went back to my work.

Something in my body said that I should not be a scared little man and just say “Hi.” What’s the worst that could happen?

I went for a quick walk to the bathroom and walked back with a confident strut.

We made eye contact and I said, “Hi, how are you”  We then chatted for about 7 minutes, and it went well.  I could even tell that she was a tad nervous herself.  It was adorable.  We exchanged phone numbers and that was that.

It was just a very pleasant and very real human experience.

Maybe I should ditch Dating Apps and just hang out in cafes.

Seeing Results In The Gym

I have been exercising 6 days a week (and 7 days for the past week) and FINALLY I saw results.

My personal trainer Mo showed me before and after pictures after training for one month.

I was SO happy to see the changes!

Day-to-day I knew I looked stronger, but I could really tell.

I could see in the pictures that my back, shoulders, and chest grew a bit.  And my stomach shrunk a bit.  It’s not at my goal yet, but the progress was important.

It goes to show how TRACKING results with metrics (or in this case pictures) can really be an eye-opening experience and help keep you on the right path.

My diet was…ok.  I have given into some unhealthy food the past few weeks, but at least 70-80% of the time I was hitting my protein goals.

Moral of the story: Take pictures!  Enjoy the results.

And exercise a lot..

If you’re curious what I do, it’s a nice balance of:

  • Monday Boxing (Sparring)
  • Tuesday: LIFT weights with Mo
  • Wednesday:  Yoga private lesson with Sara
  • Thursday: LIFT weights with Mo
  • Friday:  Group yoga lesson with Sara
  • Saturday:  Boxing with Euro 1 on 1 lesson
  • Sunday: LIFT weights with Mo.

It’s usually at 10:00am, and after my shower I feel ready for the day.  I love the routine and it’s easy to stick to because I don’t make plans before 12:00pm unless it’s something super important…but what’s more important than my health?
